Network and Computer Systems Administrators install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system. They maintain the network hardware and software. These workers monitor the network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. They may supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
Employment is expected to grow by 27% through the year 2014 as organizations continue to adopt and integrate increasingly sophisticated technologies. Job increases will be driven by very rapid growth in computer system design and related services, which is projected to be among the fastest growing industries in the U.S. economy. In addition, many job openings will arise annually from the need to replace workers who move into managerial positions or other occupations or who leave the labor force.
