Answer: When determining if an incomplete grade should be assigned, the CIS department first verifies that a student has successfully completed the majority of a course, and is near the end of the semester, with just a few assignments left, the student unexpectedly cannot turn in their assignments due to some extreme circumstance (sent out of town for business, became very ill, etc.). Under these conditions, an "I' may be granted in order to allow the student the opportunity to turn in these last assignments. Note that it is assumed that the student DOES NOT need to attend the course in the upcoming semester. The "I" is not meant to allow a student the opportunity to retake all or part of a course. It simply allows them to complete a final assignment ON THEIR OWN (as assignment which they could not complete at the normal time due to some extreme circumstance. If a student misses so much of a course and feels the need to retake the course, then usually they will have to sign up for the course again. If a student feels that they should not have to repay for the course, then an appeal to the Enrollment Services department can be made. This appeal must be done before the end of the semester and while the student is still enrolled in the course (for example, do not ask for a "W" and then ask for a refund). |
